COURT REPORTING PROGRAM CENTER

Part I - Theory

This three-module segment teaches the student to write the phonetic language of stenotype on the steno machine.  Speed will be developed through 100 wpm.  This will usually take around 6 months to accomplish, depending on full-time or part-time.

Part II - Speed Building

The student will increase writing speed through live dictation with periodic testing.  This section also incorporates the necessary academic instruction for English, Medical and Legal terminology.  Once a student reaches the speed of 160-180 wpm, Court Reporting Procedures are started and Written Knowledge Skills commence.

Part III  - Realtime/Internship

The Student will learn the mechanics of realtime writing and how to fine-tune the way words are written to accommodate better realtime translation.  A live demonstration will allow the student a chance to see what the attorneys see in depositions and courtrooms.  Also at this stage, students will accompany a Certified Shorthand Reporter on live depositions and the like, and be required to produce transcripts using their computer software.

Part IV - Job Placement

With the ever-growing demand for court reporters in the field, job placement stands at 100% for all new reporters entering the workforce.

SCOPING

Scoping students complete the first part of Theory just like our court reporting students. After they complete theory, scoping students advance into our court reporting computer training classes.  In just eight months, our scoping students can begin their scoping career from home or on-site at the school.  Scoping classes are held Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and takes seven (7) months to complete.

Other Courses Offered

The School of Court Reporting is now offering a Legal Technology program which consists of an aggressive, hands-on legal assistant training program.  The program includes legal transcription, office simulation and procedures, as well as ethics and office administrative skills.  The program includes the most commonly used law office softwares such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access, WordPerfect, and Time Slips.  Upon completion of this program, a student will be able to easily enter into a legal or office career as an assistant or secretary.
